Yekaterinburg to Get Recycling Facility

Yekaterinburg is going to get a technological park meant for waste recycling. The facility will be located on the outskirts of the city, on the premises of the older landfill Shirokaya Rechka, President of Waste Recycling Association Mikhail Malkov announced today.

The facility is expected to cover the entire area of the premises, namely, over forty hectares. In addition to the main units (the sorting unit, the fuel-producing unit, and a mini heat and power station), the facility will also get a scientific research center, a hothouse and a mini zoo. The project provides not only for waste recycling but also for the education of the locals,’ Kommersant quotes Malkov as saying.

The facility is supposed to recycle about 400,000 tons of waste a year, while Yekaterinburg produces about 500,000 to 550,000 tons of waste annually. The volume of required investments in the main technological units is preliminarily estimated at 6.2 billion RUR.

The government is expected to pay for about 25% of the project, while the rest will come from private investors. We are currently at the negotiations stage,’ Malkov reports.

According to the executive, the project development will be fully completed within the next six months, and the construction will be finished in 2014 or 2015.
