50% of Forest Fire Vehicles in Ural Federal District Fully Worn Out

Sverdlovsk Region’s fire stations now have 163 units of special forest fire fighting vehicles, most of which are in unsatisfactory condition. About a half of all the vehicles are one hundred percent worn out, about a third are 80% to 100% worn out, and only twelve vehicles are under 80% worn out, Ural Federal District Forestry Department reports.

At the same time, Sverdlovsk Region does not have enough machinery for fighting forest fires. For one, the five Type 3 fire stations that will be set up in the region in 2011 need twenty fire fighting tank cars, ten off-road bulldozers, and fifteen chain-track tractors.

The lack of machinery is to be made up for using the federal budget funds. This year, 122.4m RUR has already been provided for the purpose, while the remaining 52.4m RUR will arrive in Sverdlovsk Region in the third quarter of the year. 9.2m RUR will also be supplied from the regional budget.

So far, five out of six state orders for the delivery of twenty tank cars, ten bulldozers, and five truck tractors have been signed. Another contract for the delivery of fifteen chain-truck tractors will be signed in July 2011.
