Copper-Smelting Plant Affects Health, Svetlana Efanova says
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, July 26, 2011. A picket to protect the dwellers of Revda’s ZhBI district was held next to the building of Sverdlovsk Region Government. The picket was coordinated by a local NGO called Clean Yard – Clean City and attracted a number of local non-governmental and political organizations and representatives of ‘green’ movements from Revda and Yekaterinburg.
The picket’s main slogan sounded like this: ‘We Want to Live!’
Now ZhBI district is one of Sverdlovsk Region’s most environmentally troubled areas.
‘Sredneuralsky Copper-Smelting Plant is located right next to the district, which affects the environment and the locals’ health terribly. In fact, 110 children now live in these totally unsuitable conditions. This is why the greens primarily insist on relocating families with children first,’ says the Chair of Clean Yard – Clean City Svetlana Efanova.
The picket finished off with the participants adopting a resolution that was then directed to Governor of Sverdlovsk Region Alexander Misharin and Chairman of Sverdlovsk Region Government Anatoly Gredin.
