Governor Misharin: Bogoslovsky smelter to develop with or without RUSAL

The modernization committee under the President of the Russian Federation might look into the issues related to the development of Sverdlovsk Region’s aluminum production facilities as soon as in two or three months, Governor Alexander Misharin told the reporters after a meeting with Krasnoturyinsk locals and plant workers.

‘Two to three months are needed to consider all the issues, prepare the documentation, and make decisions. However, most of these decisions have already been made,’ the Governor said when asked how soon the federal authorities might settle the issue of the local aluminum production system development. The Governor negotiated for such an inquiry with President Dmitri Medvedev on November 28.

He said both the regional and the federal authorities would solve the problems at Bogoslovsky smelter with or without UC RUSAL’s management. The plant will keep developing, the Governor promised.

The official said it was also possible that the corporation might get certain tax relief from the local government.

‘Yet such relief will only affect a new investment plan. We have adopted a law on state-private partnership, and we could classify this development project as a priority one,’ Misharin explained.
