Russian Railways to build parking lot in Yekaterinburg

160 Russian railway stations will be fitted with the wireless Internet connection in 2012, Russian Railways’ press service reports. At the moment, twenty Russian railway stations can boast a Wi-Fi connection: the ones in Moscow, Moskovsky and Finlyandsky ones in Saint Petersburg, and the ones in Vologda, Nizhniy Novgorod, Vladimir, Cherepovets, Arkhangelsk, Yaroslavl, Pyatigorsk, Rostov, and Sochi, RZhD Partner reports.

It is also reported that, in order to improve customer service for passengers and visitors to the railway stations, the baggage rooms have been converted to automated mode this year.

In 2012, the territory around the railway stations will be further improved with parking lots, the construction of which began this year. For one, parking lots will be opened next to all of Moscow’s railway stations in the first quarter of 2012.

The lots will be fit for 1,050 cars. As for the provinces, the parking lots will appear in those constituencies where an understanding has been reached and the territory surrounding the railway stations is to be transferred to the railway stations’ directorate. This includes Irkutsk, Orel, Voronezh, Yekaterinburg, and other regions where cooperation agreements on upgrading the railway stations have been signed – forty two regions altogether.
