Lada Sales Drop to 17% on Yekaterinburg Car Market
85,080 new passenger cars were sold in Yekaterinburg in 2011, which exceeded the figures for 2010 by 60%. Yekaterinburg thus became the city with Russia’s fifth largest automobile market, preceded by Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Samara, and Kazan, the analytic agency Auto-Dealer-Yekaterinburg reports.
Lada is still the best-selling brand on the local market, even though its sales keep going down: these dropped by 2% in December. By the end of the year, Lada’s selling dynamics turned out to be the worst among Yekaterinburg’s top fifteen best-selling cars, and the Russian brand’s share of the market plunged from 21% in 2010 down to 17% in 2011.
As for the foreign cars, Chevrolet proved the top-selling make, just like last year. In fact, as far as the top ten brands are concerned, only the second five positions were seized by new brands, while the top five were the same as the ones in 2010. Within this top-ten list, the market share of Volkswagen rose considerably from 3.4% to 5.4%; KIA and Nissan followed suit, with their market shares rising from 3.1% to 4.9% and from 3.64% to 4.94%, respectively.
