Housing industry to go up 13.6% in 2006

Starting 2006, there are going to be 13.6% more dwellings introduced for living than in 2005, claims the Ministry for Building and Housing and Communal Services in Sverdlovsk Region.

This growth is thought to be possible within the framework of a regional project aimed at an increase in the construction of reasonably priced dwellings in Sverdlovsk Region in 2006-2010. The increase is predicted to come up to 20% in 2007 and to 12% to 13% in 2008-2010.

The annual output is planned at about 2.1 million square meters of living space, with the total amount of 8,600 million square meters of dwellings to be completed by 2010.

Among the proffered ways to make this project a reality are long-term loans to builders working outside the city boundaries as well as to public-sector employees and young professionals working in rural areas and subsidies provided by the regional municipal development fund in order to ensure putting up of municipal housing, for example, to relocate people residing in obsolete or unsafe buildings.

At the moment, the regional budget includes an article on expenses connected with introduction of electricity, sewage systems, roads and other indispensable networks in new districts, which should make up 1% of the total amount of expenses born by the local self-government authorities. There is also an article providing for dwellings for the poorer residents on the rental basis: the subsidy is 3,330 thousand RUR per any family that’s been on file since January 1, 2005.
