Kazskiy subsidiary of Russian ore maker replaces winder drum

Technicians of Kazskiy subsidiary of Evrazruda JSC (part of Evraz Group) began a 51-day overhaul targeted at replacing the No. 2 winder drum at their Main groove. This operation is quite unique, since this is the first time in the experience of Evrazruda when the company’s workers replace such a huge worn-out apparatus. One shaft of the drum alone weighs 34 tons and its body 70 tons, with the diameter of the drum coming to 5 meters.

Novokuznetsk Ltd. has been employed as the general contractor for the project; Evrazruda also used the labour force of its Kazskiy subsidiary; as for the engineering setup after the overhaul has been completed, this is going to be done by SibEnergoChermet, a manufacturing firm.

So far, the workers have dismantled the ropes that support the cage and the counterbalance as well as the brakes and the depth gauge that controls the position of the cage in the groove. They are now starting to dismantle the drum and will afterwards construct a trestle bridge that will be used for transferring the new equipment to the engine room with the help of crabs.

The overhaul is expected to ensure breakdown-free, reliable performance of the company. In the meantime, the ore will be transferred from the mine onto the surface via Kletievoy groove and partly via Main groove. The forced decrease of the average daily winning output will be made up for after the overhaul is over, so the enterprise will still reach the annual output targets, reports the spokesperson for Evrazruda.
