Over 500 claims laid against violators of copyrights since January, says Public Prosecutor in Ural Federal District
According to the spokesperson for the General Administration of Public Prosecution in Ural Federal District, in the course of regular investigations their experts have revealed a lot of crimes connected with illegal copying of audio and video CDs, tapes, software and other types of copyrighted media since the beginning of the year.
One such case involves a surreptitiously operating shop/storehouse that dealt in producing CDs and selling them on the wholesale basis. The shop was located in the so-called Staraya Sortirovka district of Yekaterinburg; the inspection of the premises resulted in finding the equipment as well as over 40m RUR worth of pirated audio and video CDs. The offenders who started selling the goods via an online store will have to undergo a criminal trial.
Another storehouse was situated in Leninskiy district of Yekaterinburg; the owners of the store sold their produce through a legitimate retail chain. Finally, a shop meant for graphic arts design of and selling pirated CDs was found in the area where an old bomb shelter used to be in Kirovskiy District. The officers confiscated over 15,000 items.
A person from the town of Lesnoy was charged with purchasing and reselling illegally produced audio and video CDs and sentenced to one year in prison and a large fine.
