Ural State University to elect new Rector

Ural State University is getting ready to elect their new Rector. Two people have applied for the position so far; they are Dmitriy Bugrov, the Dean of the Department of History, and Evgeniy Pamyatnikh, pro-Rector.

The former Rector Vladimir Tretyakov had to resign on December 12, 2006 due to turning 70. The federal Higher and Postgraduate Education Act states that no person over 70 can be a rector of any higher educational establishment. Valeriy Larionov has been appointed acting Rector until the time of the elections (scheduled for April 26, 2007).

The list of candidates is going to be finalized on January 25, 2007 and then (in compliance with the federal law) sent to the certification committee of the Russian Federation Ministry of Education and Science. In the meantime, Mr Tretyakov is going to become Ural State University’s first President on January 25, 2007
