UC RUSAL’s Khakas Aluminum Plant reaches full capacity

UC RUSAL’s Khakas Aluminum Plant reached its full capacity well before the deadline. The plant is now capable of producing 300,000 tons of aluminum a year; this has so far required more than $750m in terms of investments, UC RUSAL’s local press officer Roman Lukichev said to UrBC.

At the beginning of the year, the plant underwent an auditing procedure conducted by a group of independent experts at the request of BNP Paribas Bank; the experts came to a conclusion that the enterprise meets all the Equator Principles requirements, which means full compliance with both domestic and international environmental, labor protection, and industrial safety standards.

'We’ve put up and launched an enterprise that meets global standards, and we are already using this experience when working on our aluminum plants in Taishet and Boguchansk. Having professional and experienced engineers and builders is definitely one of our greatest competitive advantages as well as a guarantee of our industrial success,’ UC RUSAL’s Engineering and Building Division’s Director Valery Matvienko says.

Khakas Aluminum Plant is the first metallurgical enterprise to be put up in Russia over the last two decades. The plant was built within only twenty-five months: the first portion of aluminum was produced as early as December 2006. The company comprises a reduction area, an anodic shop, a casting department, and heating facilities as well as developed infrastructure. The plant’s reduction area is fitted with 336 PA-300 bath tanks designed by UC RUSAL’s employees. Remarkably, even though the plant’s daily output reaches 800 tons of aluminum, it only employs 730 people due to extensive use of automation. Besides, the enterprise takes pride in its high-tech dry gas cleaning units that can trap 99.5% of all the fluorochemicals and electrolysis dust.
