Chairman of Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant declared Environmentalist of the Year

Chairman of Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant Alexander Fedorov was declared the Environmentalist of The Year at the second All-Russian conference on the industrial bionomics and development of economic mechanisms of environmental protection. Mr. Fedorov was granted this honorary title for his considerable contribution to the development of conservational culture in Russia and his support of the environmental priorities of the country’s industrial enterprises. In addition, Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant was awarded with the European Quality Gold Medal in Russia’s 100 Best Organizations/Environment and Environmental Management category.

The contest’s board of experts spoke very highly of the plant’s large-scale conservational efforts and environmental programs. In fact, the company spends over 140 million RUR a year on maintaining environmental facilities, research, and projects designed to decrease the plant’s environmental impact.

Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant was one of the country’s first metallurgical enterprises to receive ISO 14001 international environmental certificate in 2004. The plant was also Russia’s first company to launch the ceramic flux production in order to use the flux for LDP pipes. In 2007, the plant was inspected by Rospotrebnadzor and proved to have no man-caused impact on the local settlements.

Chelyabinsk Tube Rolling Plant’s environmental projects have received a number of awards already; in 2006, for instance, the plant was given the order of Russia’s Environmental Shield and in 2007, it was declared Russia’s Leading Conservationist.
