MOTIV Telecommunications Group, backed up by RAO UES of Russia, was able to complete the first stage of putting up its own fiber-optic communication network between Yekaterinburg and Nizhniy Tagil along Sverdlovenergo’s power lines.

The length of the network came to over 600 kilometers; it was built using a 96-fiber optical cable with great carrying capacity.

‘If you put all the lengths of MOTIV’s existing fiber optic networks together, the total length will come to twice the circumference of the globe. This is the Urals’ first large-scale fiber-optic network, and having such telecommunications infrastructures is simply indispensable for the region’s further economic development. All out efforts are currently focused on creating this infrastructure in the region and on offering a totally new way of living and doing business to the local people. Our network will connect a number of Ural Federal District’s subjects and Perm Territory at the end of 2008, which means all kinds of telephone communication, online access, intranet, and mobile networks will get a powerful developmental boost,’ says MOTIV’s press officer Elena Radchenko.

The second stage of creating MOTIV’s own fiber-optic network will involve the distance between Yekaterinburg and Kamensk Uralskiy. MOTIV’s fiber-optic network there will be completed and launched in the first half of 2008. In the future, the network will cover all of Sverdlovsk Region from Severouralsk to Kamensk Uralskiy. The company is also working on networks connecting Yekaterinburg with Tyumen, the north of Tyumen Region, Kurgan, Chelyabinsk, and Perm.
