Large-scale projects to be abandoned, Boris Titov says
‘We feel the state might create and stimulate the demand for certain sectors’ produce or for certain projects through a balanced and efficient policy. This is why, in our opinion, the government should focus on the building industry for the time being, which we see as the efforts aimed at developing the infrastructural sector,’ said Delovaya Rossiya Chairman Boris Titov at a Stolypin Club meeting.
‘Some large-scale projects might look as both appealing and well-calculated long-term investments. Some of them are only appealing, like the bridge to Russkiy Island, for instance, since the economic benefits and the pay-off mechanisms are not quite clear here. There are also some projects that would actually pay their way, like the one on the industrial development of the Urals’ north called The Industrial Urals-The Polar Urals (or The Transpolar Urals, I’m not really sure). This particular project is actually based on the thorough economic calculations, but it’s also obvious that enormous amount of investment is needed right now, at the project’s starting point. At the moment, these investments are not going to create a cumulative effect of any kind, since the work will only involve the architects and the business plans experts at this stage. These are really long-term projects which need the money now, however. Therefore such grand plans will probably need to be abandoned for the time being,’ he added.
