MMK repairs Mill 450
Mill 450 was recently repaired at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK).
According to the company’s PR Department, the repairs involved replacement of the mill furnace lining and the mechanical bits of machinery. Also, the foundation of the mill’s fourth section was replaced with the new one and new rollers were installed at the central fridge roller conveyor. Mekhanoremontniy Komplex, Elektroremont, and Magnitogorsk maintenance center were the general contractor for the project responsible for mechanical repairs, electric equipment repairs, and hydraulic system repairs, respectively. As for the jobs related to the replacement of the foundation, they were carried out by OAO Prokatmontazh.
MMK’s Mill 450 was launched in July 2005 and is now one of the company’s three bar section mills. The machine’s annual output comes to 788,000 tons of rolled iron, that is, L-bars, U-sections, hexagons, and the like. Moreover, the mill is used for making special sections for Uralvagonzavod’s gondola cars and for digging machines. All in all, over ninety different sections are now being produced with the help of the mill from fifty different kinds of steel.
