Ural State University to close down 12 departments

The twelve departments of A.M. Gorkiy Ural State University are going to merge into four institutes by the summer of 2010. The public hearings on the new institutes’ design and policies will take place at USU on February 16-18, 2010; everyone is welcome to take part in the discussion. The decision regarding the merger and the hearing was taken by the university’s academic council.

Ural State University is to be divided into the institutes of Mathematics & Computer Science, Natural Sciences, Political Sciences & Sociology, and Humanities. In addition to this, the departments now specializing in Economics will be transformed into Higher School of Business & Management and Innovation Management & Marketing Institute.

The new institutes are expected to be fully comparable in terms of all quantitative indicators from the number of professors with PhDs to the number of students.
