Valio can’t import to Russia

Rosselkhoznadzor (the Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service) imposes a temporary ban on the import of animal products from fourteen Finnish companies on July 23, 2010. This ban touches upon six plants of Russia’s largest dairy foods supplier Valio, RBC reports. Apart from Valio, the ban also applies to Ingman Ice Cream, a well-known ice cream manufacturer.

The limits were imposed because the Russian inspectors found a number of violations at the Finnish enterprises when they examined them. No more details about the problems are given by the Service.

The Finnish media say the prohibited Finnish goods were not allowed to pass the Russian state border as early as yesterday.

Rosselkhoznadzor explains in case the prohibited goods somehow get delivered to Russia before July 23, 2010, they will be processed under the usual customs regulations but will later be subject to an obligatory lab test.

Valio is, in fact, Finland’s largest dairy foods manufacturer. Some of its produce is made in the plants located in Russia.
