Fake Blu-ray confiscated at Sfera

Counterfeit, a special police operation, is still in progress in Sverdlovsk Region at the moment. The operation is targeted at detecting and preventing production and sales of counterfeit products.

Officers from the local economic offense department have already inspected 186 retail outlets and disclosed twenty-one instances of law infringement. Thirteen administrative lawsuits and two criminal ones have been instituted as a result; over 8,000 copies of counterfeit products worth over 2 million RUR altogether have been confiscated so far.

The law-enforcement officers also found out that last-generation Blu-ray disks with the capacity of up to 24 Gb and very high image quality had been subject to counterfeiting as well. Some pirated Blu-ray disks were offered for sale at Sfera media-market in Lunacharskiy St in Yekaterinburg for 399 RUR apiece, even though a licensed copy actually costs between 600 and 1,000 RUR.
