Ural Airlines: plane slides due to runway problem
‘The problem with the plane which operated Dubai-Yekaterinburg flight was caused by the poor condition of the landing strip,’ Ural Airlines’ press service reports.
An A321 operating flight 739 Dubai-Yekaterinburg ran an extra thirty meters off the runway while trying to land at 4:25 AM on November 6, 2010. The runway was covered in ice, an ad hoc investigative committee confirmed.
‘The crew members were told during the landing that the strip was in great condition and it was possible to make a safe landing,’ the airline points out.
143 passengers and eight crew members were aboard the plane at the time; no one was killed or injured. The passengers left the cabin in the usual way, namely, by dint of the air-stairs, no evacuation was necessary.
The investigative team keeps looking into the incident.
