UC RUSAL mine death undergoes preliminary inquiry

Officers from Severouralsk Investigative Department of Sverdlovsk Region’s Investigative Administration are now carrying out a preliminary inquiry into the fatal accident at UC RUSAL Krasnaya Shapochka mine. The body of the victim, a mine worker, will be subject to a medico-legal investigation in order to detect the time and cause of death. The police are also collecting eye witness evidence as well as looking into documents, employee and management manuals, work sheets, and safety drill records.

A twenty-two-year-old breakage face mine worker was killed by a rock fall in one of UC RUSAL Severoualsk mines at about 8:30 PM on December 29, 2010. The accident occurred at the level of 860 meters below the ground.

According to the preliminary data available, the rock fall was caused by a natural shock bump.
