MMK delivers 500,000 tons of flats to OMK

UrBC, Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk Region, January 21, 2011. Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) delivered 500,000 tons of flat stock made at the company’s Mill 5000 to United Metallurgical Company (OMK), MMK PR Department reports. These wide-measure sheets have been produced by MMK for Vyksunsky Metallurgical Plant (a member of OMK) since November 2009. The product is meant for making large-diameter pipes used in oil and gas pipeline construction.

‘OMK is our company’s strategic partner and one of our Mill 5000 flat stock key consumers,’ says MMK BOD Chairman Viktor Rashnikov. He says MMK has been buying their plates since Mill 5000 was first launched.
‘We are interested in meeting our customers’ needs in terms of good quality world-class plate in full,’ Rashnikov explains.

‘MMK got its Mill 5000 facility to reach its full projected capacity in a fast and efficient way. The design and launch of new technologies allowed our company to become Vyksunsky Metallurgical Plant’s major flat stock supplier,’ says OMK President Vladimir Markin.

The flat products made at MMK Mill 5000 are used for making pipes for VSTO, Purpe-Samotlor, Ukhta-Torzhok, and Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok pipelines as well as for some other ones.
