Sverdlovsk Region authorities keep an eye on the situation at Rezhnickel, a local industrial enterprise, Governor Alexander Misharin informed Plenipotentiary Representative of Russian Federation President in Ural Federal District Evgeny Kuivashev in the course of a recession-fighting committee meeting, the spokesperson for the Governor reports.

The trouble at the plant became known at the end of September 2011. According to the plant’s proprietors, the problems were caused by dropping nickel prices at the stock exchanges: these fell by nearly 1.5 times.

Alexander Misharin described the situation and said the region’s government was given the needed instructions at once, so the measures taken made it possible to avoid any layoffs. The enterprise was also helped, and the government is now considering various plans for Rezhnickel’s development. Negotiations on improving the current proprietor’s position or giving the plant a new owner are also under way.

Now Industrial & Metallurgical Holding Management Company was set up in 2002. The company manages a number of metallurgical, coke-chemical, and mining enterprises, the largest of these being Tulachermet and Koks. In addition to Rezhnickel, the company also comprises Ufaleynickel.
