Metallurgical Works of Novgorod gets OHSAS 18001:1999 safety and healthcare certificate

Metallurgical Works of Novgorod (part of Russian Copper Company) has gone through certificating procedure and has been awarded the safety and healthcare certificate that says the company meets the British OHSAS 18001:1999 standard demands.

This is an important step in bringing the company’s management in accordance with the global standards. The main requirements were: compliance with labour legislation, employees that are qualified for the job they do, keeping track of and preventing the health risks, emergency training, safety provisions.

The audit was held by Test-Saint Petersburg Ltd. (partner of IQNet) in December 2005 and resulted in some minor flaws that were fixed timely, so now the company has already got the OHSAS 18001:1999 certificate.

‘The new management systems provide for the best possible control of quality, environment, safety and healthcare, which is a significant factor in the general improvement of the company’s performance,’ said the spokesperson Tatiana Filippova.

‘Complying with the international requirements is on the list of top priorities for Russian Copper Company. Most of our plants have got all the necessary certificates, and the one given to Metallurgical Works of Novgorod once again proves that we are an efficient and modern business,’ said PR Director Alexander Khanin.
