Power shop of Evrazruda Abagursky subsidiary celebrates its 50th anniversary

The power shop personnel of Evrazruda JSC Abagursky subsidiary (part of Evraz Group) have celebrated its 50th anniversary. The company’s steam and water supply system that originally contained two six-ton steam boilers, was among the first units constructed at the building site of Abagursky Sintering Plant.

Today, the shop comprises two subdivisions, namely, the boiler and compressor sector and the heat network sector. The subdivisions run the boiler house equipped with six coal-burning steam generating units and one oil-burning one, the compressor house, two industrial pumping installations, two drinking water engines, the chemical water treatment station and the industrial waste evacuation station. All the equipment is operated by 80 people.

Since the whole technology of ore processing and sintering is based on heavy use of water, the main function of the power shop is to supply the production with steam, hot and cold water and also to collect and utilize the waste waters.

Thus the power shop pumps over about 31,000 cubic meters of reused water, 7,000 cubic meters of fluvial water and near 565,000 cubic meters of drinking water annually.

The company pays special attention to technological improvements. Therefore, in 2003 the company set into operation the ultraviolet irradiation unit for drinking water treatment in order to stop using gasiform chlorine for water disinfection and to shut down a rather dangerous chlorine facility.

This year, a new vacuum pump was installed at a pumping facility in order to improve its performance, and the filter nozzles of the chemical water treatment station were renovated to improve the results of pre-boiler water treatment. The information was reported by PR-department of Evrazruda JSC.
