Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Nizhniy Tagil awarded for contributing to Urals’ industrial heritage
Metallurgical Industrial Complex of Nizhniy Tagil (part of Evraz Group) received three Certificates of Award for contributing to Urals’ industrial heritage and large-scale educational activity. The ceremony took place in the course of the final annual meeting of the directors of Ural Federal District Museums. Sverdlovsk Region Ministry of Culture expressed its gratitude to the company’s management for the continuous support of the factory museum and exhibition center as well as for participating in the development of the unique museum located on the premises of Demidovskiy Ironworks (this is an industrial memorial that is important to the whole country). Thanks to the Complex, the old production sites dating back to the Demidovs are still subject to archaeological expeditions.
The exhibition center of the Complex holds approximately 20 exhibitions a year, and a lot of them have to with more than industry and metallurgy: some national costumes, kitchen utensils dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, old musical instruments and modern art are the exhibits that enjoy great popularity with both the company’s workers and the residents of Nizhniy Tagil. The funds of the museum can boast of 11,000 items, including exhibits of great historic importance, for example, the samples of the first produce of the Ural plants, documents relating to the foundation of schools for metallurgists’ children by the Demidovs, working models of Martin and blast furnaces, and the corporate awards from the Soviet times.
This center has been around for over 30 years, and the company’s management has always laid great emphasis on its development; a large reconstruction project was carried out a few years ago, with decoration of the rooms and introduction of movable stands and new exhibits. All of the company’s young employees start their work in the company by taking a tour of the museum, with over 15,000 people visiting the center annually.
