A group of polar explorers came back from Vorkuta to Yekaterinburg on April 10, 2008. Fourteen Yekaterinburg dwellers returned from their journey to the Arctic Ocean targeted at exploring the little-known island of Langotango. At the moment, no information about this island can be found in any geographical reference books or on the Internet. All the data collected by the brave travelers are to be processed and offered to Russian scientific research centers, the spokesperson for Ural Airlines reports.

According to Oleg Maiorov, who inspired and organized the expedition, there are still many unexplored islands in the Arctic Ocean due to the fact that this is a very particular part of the globe with both the water and the land covered by thick layers of ice, which sometimes makes it simply impossible to notice an island underneath.

Visitors to the place largely have to get around by air, yet the group of travelers from Yekaterinburg used snowmobiles to get from Vorkuta to the coast of the ocean and did so without relying on any outside assistance. All the necessary equipment was also transferred to the place without any help from the air.

Ural Airlines CFO Kirill Skuratov, who took part in the adventure, says the living conditions were rather harsh. The snowmobiles kept breaking down because of inclemently cold weather; the outside temperature was always at least 25 degrees centigrade below zero. On top of that, the travelers got caught in a blizzard at the very outset of their journey.
