Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) developed its environmental program for 2009.

MMK comes up with such a program on a yearly basis in order to decrease its negative impact on the environment and to make sure they keep to the norms of air and water emissions and industrial waste limits.

‘Some of our most important tasks include putting up a dust exhausting unit for our Mill 5000 that will trap at least 900 tons of dust a year. In addition, some gas-purification units will be installed at our CC machine department. All in all, we plan to spend 300 million RUR on air-friendly innovations this year. In terms of water protection, the enterprise will soon be using the circulation supply systems for both Mill 5000 and at the CC machine department, which will provide for recycling of 300 million cubic meters of water a year. 1.2 billion RUR will be invested in water-purification technologies in 2009 altogether. So, all the projects aimed at waste recycling, land reclamation, and municipal and environmental improvements will total down to 1.557 billion RUR,’ MMK’s PR Department reports.
