MMK keeps testing polymeric coating unit

Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) keeps testing its second polymeric coating unit. The representatives of the Italian Fata Hunter (the equipment supplier) and the team of experts from Prokat Montazh (the project’s general contractor) as well as the field engineers from the enterprise’s electric lab are still working in the coating shop.

For one, they have already trained the unit’s future operators using the company’s first polymeric coating unit that was launched in July 2004. According to MMK’s PR Department, the existence of the first unit made mastering the second one much easier, so 97.9% of the goods the technicians produced was non-defective right from the start. In fact, 3,000 tons of coated metal was produced with the help of the second unit in August 2009. The target figure for September is 12,500 tons, which comes to 70% of the unit’s capacity (17,000 to 18,000 tons a month).

What is more, the coating shop is soon going to get a bending machine that will eliminate the metal’s earlier deformation defects caused by transportation, for instance. At the same time, the coating unit will also be fitted with the laminating nodes that will enable the shop to manufacture decorative textured coating with a protective layer in just one month’s time.
