Sole trader sentenced for SIM card hacking
UrBC, Yekaterinburg, August 23, 2010. The municipal court of Muravlenko, Yamalo-Nenetskiy Autonomous Region, returned the verdict of guilty on an individual entrepreneur Ilnar Kantuganov. The man was convicted for committing computer information offenses, the spokesperson for Ural Federal District’s division of the Russian Federation General Prosecutor’s Office.
It was detected that in November 2008, Kantuganov used certain software programs to get illegitimate access to the data contained in the protected memory sections of SIM cards issued by OAO Uralsvyazinform. He then set up an illegal multi-SIM card manufacturing enterprise and offered the said cards for sale at the price of 600 RUR per SIM card.
Ilnar Kantuganov was found guilty and got eight months of suspended prison sentence; he’ll also have to spend six months on probation.
