According to the statistics for January-September 2009, Yekaterinburg is Russia’s third largest foreign cars market, with 25,610 foreign vehicles sold in these nine months. This figure was only beaten by Moscow and Saint Petersburg, AVTOSTAT agency says in its monthly report on the country’s automobile market.

All in all, the sales of foreign cars in Yekaterinburg decreased by nearly 60% in January-September 2009 compared to January-September 2008.

Chevrolet, whose share of the local foreign cars market came to 13.4%, was Yekaterinburg’s No.1 bestseller, while Toyota’s share dropped from 17.6% down to 13.4%. Hyundai, with its 8.9% share of the market, was the third best-selling car. In fact, this company’s share of the market used to be 11.4% in nine months of 2008. The top three brands are followed by Daewoo and Renault, whose shares of the market come to 7.4% and 6.4%, respectively. Among the city’s top ten best-selling brands are Nissan, Opel, Ford, Skoda, and Honda.

‘Yekaterinburg market is rather promising, as this city is a big industrial unit with high population income,’ says AVTOSTAT Director Sergey Tselikov.
