MMK launches energy-saving program
President of MMK Management Company Viktor Rashnikov recently signed a special order that launches an energy-saving program at Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) and other divisions of MMK Group in 2010.
According to the company’s Information and PR Department, such programs get updated and are implemented within the enterprise on a yearly basis, but the current economic recession has made these programs more important than ever before. The program provides for implementation of measures aimed at reduced electricity, fuel, heat, and air separation products spending as well as at cutting down on the amount of drinking, firefighting, and service water used. For example, the older light bulbs will be partially replaced with the new energy-saving ones to save electricity. Also, some power-hungry machinery will be substituted by some low-energy counterparts.
As a result, MMK alone expects to save 6,522,000 kilowatt-hours in 2010, whereas the entire MMK Group will probably save as much as 7,078,000 kilowatt-hours. These savings are estimated to be worth almost 16.9 million RUR.
Then, MMK Group will probably be able to spend 5,276 tons less of fuel equivalent, 13,223 gigacalories less of heating energy, and 976,000 cubic meters less of compressed air and air separation products in 2010 than in 2009.
Finally, the program is expected to help the enterprise reduce its firefighting and drinking water spending by 42,000 cubic meters and cut down the service water spending by 367,000 cubic meters.
In financial terms, the implementation of the energy- and resource-saving program is presumed to save the company over 37.8 million RUR in the year 2010.
